Following the success of Enrico Cavalli’s retrospective held in the renovated Santa Maria Maggiore School of Fine Arts last summer and autumn, the Rossetti Valentini Foundation presents a new exhibition from 30 June to 3 November 2024 dedicated to two of Cavalli’s students. The exhibition “Gian Maria Rastellini in the Milan of Grubicy and Tosi,” curated by Lorella Giudici and Elisabetta Staudacher, aims to trace the training and artistic career of Gian Maria Rastellini (1869–1927) and his brother Gian Battista Rastellini (1860–1926), also a painter, who were from Buttogno. Gian Maria excelled in the art world, while Gian Battista focused mainly on restoration.

The exhibition focuses primarily on Gian Maria but also makes space for still lifes and portraits by his brother.

The exhibition is organised by the Rossetti Valentini Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Santa Maria Maggiore, Fondazione Compagnia San Paolo, Fondazione Comunitaria del VCO Ente Filantropico, Museo dell’Emigrazione Vigezzina nel Mondo, Distretto Turistico dei Laghi, Monti e Valli d’Ossola and SSIF Società Subalpina di Imprese Ferroviarie on the occasion of their centenary celebrations, with the patronage of AICA Italia, Società per le Belle Arti ed Esposizione Permanente di Milano, Fondazione Ciolina, Collezione Poscio and Asilo Bianco, with the support of Archivio Rastellini, Big Ciaccio Arte and Gruppo Folkloristico Valle Vigezzo.
